She is unable to go through with it due to her promise with her mother. Fortuna soon arrives, attempting to fight off Pandora, and comforting Emilia. Petelgeuse shows up to assist in fighting Pandora, but in his enraged haze, accidentally stabs Fortuna instead. The dying woman apologizes to her brother for not doing enough, while Emilia tearfully forgives her; Petelgeuse meanwhile goes insane over his actions which Pandora congratulates him for acting on his love. Pandora asks Emilia once again about opening the seal, but instead she retaliates by screaming "Die" and attempting to kill her. Her magic goes out of control, completely freezing the entirety of the forest. Before Emilia herself ends up in deep sleep, Pandora erases the memory of her existence, before disappearing with a laughing Petelgeuse. The present Emilia, alongside Echidna, reconciles with the actions with her past self and that she doesn't regret her decision, that she will fight to save her frozen friends and family for a world they have happily live in. Echidna declares her dream as optimistic and selfish, but Emilia stands by it believing in herself. She passes the first trial, waking back up in the temple as she mourns over her mother again. Subaru, Otto, and Garfiel confront Roswaal, who reveals that Otto, due to being a seemingly insignificant piece in the prophecy, has allowed Subaru to rewrite 'the game', gaining Roswaal's respect. Subaru proceeds to request his surrender, stating they know the true purpose of the Sanctuary.
