The priestess of the Sea of Fragments explains that Rika's resolve to leave the village is strong as a result of her hundred-year struggle against fate. She shows Satoko all of the previous worlds Rika had traveled through. To prevent Rika from leaving the village, Satoko decides to break Rika's resolve by trapping her in a cycle of tragedy again. The priestess grants Satoko greater power, causing Rika’s memories to persist through the loops as long as Satoko dies shortly after Rika.
