Earl is appalled and hauls Robbie off to hunt in the wilderness, to reinforce the carnivore ethic: the bigger eats the smaller. When Robbie is swallowed by an enormous swamp monster, Earl is forced to reconsider his philosophy. When Earl too is swallowed, the father and son continue their argument inside the belly of the beast. However, when recounting how he and his father argued, and how he wanted a better life for his family, Earl realises that new ideas from the next generation can help a species evolve. Upon leaving the swamp monster's belly, both father and son reconcile, with Earl accepting Robbie's choice in lifestyle.
