After finding Bai Lan wounded in the street, he cared for her because of her resemblance to his late daughter which he saw as a blessing from God. Xiang Ying offered to protect Hayakawa as City Hunter, but he refuses. As Xiang Ying leaves the building she meets Bai Lan who reveals that she also tried to kill herself, but after being saved and cared for by Hayakawa, she confesses that she don't want him to die.
