Alvin and Theodore lead him to investigate Miss Smith, whom they believe is a secret agent, but his investigations prove otherwise. Therefore, Alvin and Theodore manage to enlist Miss Smith and some friends of hers to enact a secret mission, unbeknownst to Simon, so he can get material for a story. Thanks to them, Simon becomes the newspaper's editor.
